Tennis Toblerone
It is indeed Toblerone tennis and not champagne tennis that Stan played during his first round despite the injury of his opponent. He simply impressed me. What are the possible dangers for him?
Stan is still a level above all these players huh. The “pace” (speed, rhythm, weight in American) that he manages to put on his forehand is impressive. He is at home, he already had a doubles match in his paws, the conditions were met for him. He spoke a bit of stress of course, but that stress turned into concentration very well. No doubt, Stan is there, and I clearly make him one of the favorites for this tournament despite his part of the table which is the most difficult on paper (see Agut's level tomorrow). I therefore think that the risk that his nervousness prevents him from letting go is clearly reduced. The confidence he has acquired and his enormous level of motivation for this tournament give him little chance for me to get bogged down in the face of the pure earthman game of a not very confident Munar.
