Etcheverry, then Fritz for his first two victories on the main circuit (after 9 attempts I think). The Jap will remember it all his life. It’s happening at home, in the capital. Against Popyrin he will still have the public behind him. He will always have his big heart too. But he now has a new weapon: confidence in his tennis. And yes, he himself didn't think he could play that well. It was him who won this 3rd set against Taylor Fritz. A super effective volley, accuracy in the game and a long flat line backhand which irritated Uncle Sam several times. Opposite a Popyrin who wins in mentality and service. But I didn't find him great from the baseline. Lots of waste. Without his grinta and an exhausted Garin in the 3rd set, I don't see him passing. Matchup-wise, I think Mochizuki could be pretty good if he manages to come back and dictate the exchange. Let’s go see the odds 😉!
