Luca will be able to test himself
Clay is Van Assche's best surface, he hasn't played a match on it this year and takes Munar, a specialist in ocher. Something to gauge yourself!
So obviously Van Assche doesn't care about testing himself, he just wants victory but we will be able to have an idea of where the Frenchman is. It's clear that his last few weeks have been really good, the level of play is there and we feel that he's missing a little something to swing big matches. Perhaps the return to earth will allow him to better manage this type of match, precisely given that his lack of power is not as "handicapping" on this surface. In 2022 he gave us a year at 40v for 20d on earth with mainly challenges, in 2023 the transition to the main circuit did not go very well even if we saw him put out some very good matches! Munar leaves with the advantage of having played several matches on earth this season but that's about it. I think Luca is more solid than him in the rally, hits better areas on the serve and will have better results on earth than Munar in his career. The question is whether Munar's experience and combativeness won't be too much for Luca to return to earth?
