We all remember this match last year where Ugo had match balls! Sonego had released a monstrous passing and turned this match around but things are different this year.

Different because Ugo has reached a milestone over the past season, he has established himself as one of the top players on the circuit and he is evolving in a new dimension. I liked his R1 then his R2 because he tries to round his shots but without losing his playing identity, when you have to send hard flat he is monstrous and must not erase this aspect of his game. The French is confident, calm in the field and ready to go to war. Because yes this match is going to be a war, it will surely be scheduled on the Court des Princes, stronghold of the Italians in Monte-Carlo. Sonego perfectly seized his chance to be LL and had a big match against FAA with only 4 unforced errors. He managed the heated moments better and will clearly play without pressure in this 1/8th final. Ugo beat him at the end of 2023 and it's a victory that can change the situation, he was left with 2 frustrating defeats against Lorenzo, it's good to have won so as not to become fixated. I think the match up is not bad for Ugo because with his left paw he easily takes Sonego into a hard forehand/backhand diago, he can then send it long down the line. Conversely, Sonego will try to touch Ugo's backhand and will not hesitate to move away. A tense match in a crazy atmosphere, on paper it's one of the weakest 1/8th finals but I can assure you that things will happen!
