First shine for Mayot?

The French next gen is also Harold Mayot, 21, a little slower to explode than some other young French people but who progresses at his own pace!

When we talk about the French next gen we think directly of Fils, Van Assche, Debru etc. but we will also have to count on Mayot in the years to come. I think he is taking a small step this season and a victory in a GC could take him to a new level. Luckily he benefits from a frankly affordable draw, Bonzi is coming back from injury and is not at his best, the books give Mayot the favorite and I tend to agree. Harold is able to play well on grass, he was already a semi-finalist at Wimbledon in junior a few years ago and given his qualifications this season we can hope for nice things for him in the future. A big first ball that hurts, he uses his legs a lot to push on it and compensate for his "small" size of 1.78. He's an excellent server for his size, around 78% of points won behind his first serve in qualifying and he's only been broken once in 3 games. I find it very solid on the backhand side but could be improved on the forehand, after that it's personal this kind of opinion. He has a super nice hand, whether it's to drop drop shots or finish the points at the net, it's already solid and we feel that it's innate on this side. Lots of praise but he is a player who deserves it, I would be surprised not to see him explode one day or another. He will be opposed to Bonzi and it is the unknown concerning the injury of the Frenchman, we saw him being unable to make backhands with both hands during his two matches on grass this season. Forced to do like Moutet and to slice almost all the time, this is also why Mayot finds himself a favorite. We don't have any info on that, so beware.
