SHOCK of the day!

That's it, we're there guys, the long-awaited shock of 1/8ths will take place. While the German looks to be back to his best (and leading 3-1 in their encounters), Jannik Sinner is simply displaying the best form of his career at the moment. Let's break it all down...

Let's attack through the game of the Italian. Without surprises, he will enter the field and he will put slats. His results have been better lately because he manages to take the ball a little earlier, to get on the net intelligently (example against Wawrinka) and to delay a bit more. He also gained huge confidence from his first M1000 title in Toronto. But for me, two caveats to point out as we approach a meeting against Zverev: 1. his number of unforced errors which is still high (61 against Wawrinka - even if it's his game, we agree), 2. his movement that sometimes lacks accuracy. I would also like to slightly relativize Jannik Sinner's victories in this US Open, especially the last one against Stan who obviously had to expose himself and take a lot more risks given the difference in physique and level.

On the Zverev side now, the Z. Against Sinner I would like to underline: his field coverage of course, his quality of 1ʳᵉ ball, his backhand power (and forehand when he has time). The classic flat with the German is his second ball and his few air holes, less and less frequent of course.

All this to tell you that the German has the qualities required to annoy a Sinner in the thick of it. I would even say that if the match were to be played in 5 sets, I would bet more on the resilience of Zverev.
