The Serbian puzzle
7-0 for Djoko, and only 2 sets given up in a match in Australia in 2021 during the tumultuous COVID period. Which solution for Fritz?
Such a number of defeats can only be explained by structural reasons. My theory is that, by sending that he was potentially going to play Djoko in the quarter, Taylor Fritz gave everything to ship his matches as quickly as possible and keep energy. His main weapons (serve / forehand) are usually very well countered by the best receiver in the world. And the only way to beat Djoko for him would be to offer him a huge physical fight with lots of rallies from the baseline, very few unforced errors, few risks, etc... Because there are 2 main ways to beat the Serbian: 1. beat him at his own game à la Medvedev 2. send nothing but cachous to Félix Auger-Alliassime.
