Final day
The 2 players who left the latest for Australia and without playing any official match in 2024, find themselves in the final here!
Don't see this as irrefutable proof, simply the fact that a Grand Slam is really very demanding for the top seeds who go far. Besides, Medvedev would perhaps have done better to come before because he struggled so much physically! I saw him training at the Mouratoglou academy another week before the tournament, it was 10 degrees 😅. And this physical criterion will necessarily count in a final, even if it will be played in a night session. Indeed, I don't expect a dapper Medvedev throughout the match. At the end of his rope several times against Zverev (and others before), he always found solutions like serving volleys and playing with 2-3 racket shots. With his back to the wall, things went pretty well, and little by little he was regaining color. Only here, Yannik Sinner represents aggressiveness par excellence, and mentally, even if it is his first Grand Slam final, I find him much stronger than Zverev. He therefore has the advantage in terms of match up by having the perfect profile to beat the Russian, and in terms of physique. Medvedev has nothing to lose, he will arrive much more aggressive and opportunistic than usual in my opinion because if he backs off too much, he is dead. He just proved against Zverev that he wasn't bad at all on the volley but Jannik took it so early and moved so well against Novak, that I really don't give the Russian much of a chance.
