Take some gum Emil!
The Finn refreshed us all a little last week in Marseille by taking a rout against Fokina when we thought he had reached a milestone! Small mistake along the way or his demons coming back? (#Emil and images 😅)
And yes, I was on the sidelines, and I saw an unrecognizable Emil against ADF in Marseille. He missed a lot more than usual even though he had played rather well against Van Assche the day before. He even got angry. Yes yes, Emil got angry. Well, rather frustrated. It was a little weird seeing emotions on his face. ADF went into defense mode by moving back a little, and the Finn made a mistake. Against Ugo today, it will be different of course. I loved what he said about Sinner, I think it shows exactly the player he is:"I watch a lot of what he does. I look at his attitude, he is very calm, he stays in his bubble, very professional. In the game, he manages to take early, without forcing. He is always fair. He never loses never time. It speaks to me...".We will therefore have a Frenchman in full confidence with his victory in Marseille, who will attack and especially make Father Emil move by finding angles. And I don't think Emil likes that much. But the argument that makes me lean the most towards a victory for Ugo is that Emil leads 4-0 in their confrontations. It will help him get back into the fight from the start. Ideal just after winning a tournament I think. Especially since 3 of these 4 confrontations were played on clay (where Ugo still has a lot of progress to make), and his best tennis is playing at the moment.
