Return of a player that everyone loves because he is so nice and he was so good. Will it be up to par?
We all remember, the Japanese made a brief reappearance in 2023 before disappearing again. Upon his return, he won a Challenger. He quickly had a good level and physically, it wasn't bad either! His game depends a lot on his physique, it was better you tell me. His last match: quarter-final in Atlanta against Fritz, July 28, 2023. In his career, he participates 11 times in Miami and makes 2 quarters, 1 half and a final. We're starting to understand his rating a little better... Especially since, on the Ofner side, it's not really a joy. The guy clearly admits to having done something stupid by going to do the Golden Swing in South America. Results: 3 tournaments, 3 defeats! He is recovering a little with the recent hard court tournaments but we feel that confidence is not there. In terms of playing styles, I find that Ofner has his card to play as a puncher, even if that's exactly what Nishikori liked to play. This is a very difficult match to bet on here, but I wanted to write 2-3 lines to keep you informed of the situation. As a reminder, Nishikori has decided to undergo hip surgery in February 2022 to avoid the fate of Andy Murray and Bob Bryan who now play with a titanium hip (source: https://www.atptour.com/ en/news/nishikori-atlanta-2023-feature)
