A very fine margin
It's hard to place one of the two players above the other, it's a great first round, very difficult to predict, but I'll try to do it for you!
After a good start on grass in Hertogenbosh, McDonald suffered a bit of a blow with a few surprise defeats behind. Not the best preparation for Wimbledon and we will quickly have to find our best tennis to hope to beat Ruusuvuori. The Finn had been absent for several weeks and made his return to Eastbourne quite convincing. His ability to hit the ball with perfect timing, to dictate the game almost effortlessly, hurts his opponents on grass. His biggest problem remains consistency, he can play top 20 in a set and collapse behind by multiplying unforced errors. I would say that in terms of pure level of play he is above McDonald and that on a 250 I would go for his victory, except that we are in the Grand Slam and that changes a lot of things. We can see that Ruusuvuori's results in Grand Slams are sluggish and disappointing compared to his level, he often struggles in the first rounds and does not go far in general. Some players excel in GC but not him apparently. When we look at McDonald's results in GC we can directly see that he is more comfortable, the format allows him to express himself better, to work his opponents and to make the difference over time. We are in a little dilemma, for me Ruusuvuori is better but the format does not go his way, so who do we decide for?
