A direct shock
Safiullin defends a quarter-final this week and comes across a TS in the first round in the person of Cerundolo, not a great grass specialist but a tenacious player.
No victories on grass to prepare this Wimbledon for Safiullin. Two close defeats against Berrettini and Marozsan while serving extremely well, he was missing a little something to go to the end. For Cerundolo the same observation, two defeats against even better players. The Argentinian had a good run on grass last year while riding his big season on land, this year we feel that he is not as confident and a Cerundolo in this state can lose against a lot of people. For Safiullin I would say that his recent lack of victories is a less decisive factor because in the end he plays the same way all the time, we know that with confidence or not he will take the game on his own and go for it frankly . This will be the first confrontation between the two, if Cerundolo raises well and concedes few aces in general it is less obvious on grass. He's not going to have the game on his own and I'm counting on Safiullin to put pressure on every second ball from the Argentinian.
