Never two without three
Already two titles at Eastbourne for Fritz and he is ultra favorite tomorrow but the hardest part remains to be done. A final cannot be played, it must be won!
This week Fritz is impressive on serve, he hasn't been broken yet. We can't say that he's so imperial in the game though, he's strong, eh, but we're not sure he's Fritz Prime. He has just had four tie-breaks in a row and won them all, I might as well tell you that even if we manage to hold his service games against him we still have to be able to put them back in the decisive games. To summarize the American's week we can say that he is unplayable on serve but takeable in the game and not very effective on break points with 1 break point converted out of 11 since the start of the tournament. His opponent tomorrow will therefore be Purcell, the ghost. The Australian is having a very complicated season but since returning to grass we have felt him making clear progress, he is regaining his feelings and his tennis. With the addition of a change of coach this week, everything seems to be clicking perfectly to find him at his best level and his performances of the week confirm it. He's good at serving but I don't want to dwell on this part of his game because the most important thing is elsewhere. I read a sentence about him that sums him up perfectly: Purcell is excellent in the way he neutralizes his opponents and nullifies their balls. He slices forehand, backhand, plays very diverse areas with different heights too. Can he take you into a very particular rhythm that can put a lot of players to sleep or even disrupt them, including Fritz? Only one confrontation to remember and it was last year indoors where Fritz won 7/6 7/6. With the lack of realism from Fritz this week and the good level of play from Purcell I see something to be done..
