Cressy, is it back?
First ATP main draw victory outside Challenger for Maxime Cressy in 2024! The former winner of the 2022 edition here is therefore gradually regaining confidence. Will that be enough to defeat the opportunist Michelsen?
One thing you can't blame him for is that he gives his all. Maxime Cressy has been in free fall for quite some time, and intends to regain some confidence in a tournament that he appreciates. The surface favors his game and it is the only ATP tournament of his career that he has won. When we talk about his match against Michelsen he replies: “I am ready to fight until the tie-break of the third set again”. If the desire to do well and move up the rankings is there, his tennis level is still at half mast, I think. Even if the conditions against Albot were clearly disgusting with a lot of wind, a guy categorized as almost a serve-bot cannot make 23 double faults for 14 aces and 8 break points saved out of 14. Opposite, Michelsen defends a final. I remember last year, it was almost his first ATP tournament, and he surprised everyone. At 19, he is seeded No. 3 here, being ranked 61st in the world. On grass this season he clearly has a better level than Cressy. The surface also suits him perfectly, and the wind too because he is an opportunistic player who does not hesitate to send when necessary. Purely American mentality, I logically find it favorite here. He plays a doubles match with McDo today (July 16) before his match against Cressy on July 17. Which also leaves time for Maxime Cressy to make a few buckets and come back with a better quality of service. Cressy will come back stronger than her R1, I have no doubt! But while he fell to 180th place in the world, Michelsen rose to 61st...
