Goffin on a roll?
9 wins in the last 10 matches, not bad for the former world number 7, right?
Pleasantly surprised by a kind of serenity from the Belgian to eliminate Shapo in R1, especially after his catastrophic match against Machac at Wim. This first one is what he needed for me: 3 sets, a nice name to beat, a day of rest... And I won't even mention his match up against Purcell! Even if the Australian had a great third set in the long section, I think O'Connell was starting to get a bit burnt out. And then Purcell is not going to turn into a baseliner overnight. His major asset is his serve, and at that level, he is very well regulated. But I will tell you a match that I think will convince you: Goffin / Mpetshi at Roland Garros. I don't consider Purcell to be equal to Mpetshi, but even on clay, this match proves to me that Goffin, STILL TODAY, is capable of countering this kind of player and having a good eye. His intelligence and gaming experience will do the rest!
