Tennis is the only woman I need

Nishikori promises complete devotion to tennis after his "scandal"...

We have two players who retired in their last matches. Carabelli retired in Toronto against Baena in the first round due to a right arm injury, and Nishikori, with a back injury, in Geneva against Khachanov in the second round. Carabelli had quite a good end of clay season after Roland Garros, with deep runs in Båstad and Umag. Nishikori has not been able to do much this year due to injuries, except for his run to the final in the ATP Hong Kong at the very start. Since Nishikori is injured quite often lately, we can have a look at how his first matches have been after coming back from injury:

3 April 2025 (ret. in ATP Houston) | Won against Vukic 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 as a 1.40~ favorite in Madrid on 24 April (21 days later).

30 August 2024 (ret. in Como CH) | Won against Dellavedova 6-4, 6-4 as a 1.06 favorite in Genoa CH on 3 September (4 days later).

30 May 2024 (ret. in Roland Garros) | Lost against Rinderknech 7-5, 4-6, 7-6, 3-6, 2-6 as a 3.08 underdog in Wimbledon on 3 July (34 days later).

Nishikori does not seem like the type who rushes back from injury, so I want to believe he will be able to maintain a decent level, as he has in the samples above. I think the matchup heavily favors Nishikori, even more so in these conditions. Nishikori is an Attacking Baseliner, and Ugo Carabelli is a Solid Baseliner / Counter Puncher. Nishikori tends to excel against this kind of playstyle, as it gives him time to impose his tennis. With his high-quality groundstrokes, he can construct points and find ways to penetrate their defenses, especially when the conditions are not too slow. Nishikori struggles a lot more against other Attacking Baseliners that prevent him from taking control and dictating. Ugo Carabelli does not like facing Attacking Baseliners, especially on faster courts, since he can't match their aggression, and playing defense is a lot harder than it would be on a slower clay court. Carabelli's road to victory would be to drag this match out long enough until it becomes a physical battle, where he would have a huge advantage as long as he has recovered from his arm injury... Lastly, I want to mention the fact that Nishikori went out and publicly apologized for cheating on his wife recently, because this can be a factor for him mentally, especially while it is still somewhat "fresh" (positive or negative?).

"From now on, in order to fully develop as a responsible citizen, I will devote myself exclusively to tennis competitions and achieving results." That sounds like a man on a mission to me ;)
