The Fit Man
Is Emilio Nava having that spark he's been looking for for a long time to break through the top 100 barrier?
It looks like it! No secrets, the guy has been working for quite some time. I saw him at Roland Garros in the qualifiers, beating Blancaneaux thanks to some winning coaching from Ferrero (he comes from his academy). He already had a hard court game, good serve, forward-oriented. And then this season, already 50 matches on clay to learn real tennis. So it's not a surprise for me if he's been gleaning some great victories on hard court for the past 3 weeks. Close to beating Rublev in Los Cabos, three sets against Toronto's Khachanov... And 2 clean sets against Navone in the R2 of the qualifiers here. Enough to have confidence in a good Nava here! Opposite, a Coric who is playing his part in Toronto against Gigante, but I fear that his game is not yet sufficiently impactful on hard court. He needed a few more adjustments with a few silly mistakes here and there. His "grinder" game will in my opinion not be enough to counter Emilio's aggressiveness. We're talking about a Nava who pushed Khachanov to his limits anyway. So I see you coming, Borna won the tournament here in 2022. Okay, but hey, so much has happened since then. And then, apart from a quarter in 2016, he quickly leaves the tournament the other 6 editions he plays. So well... For me the question is Nava's rating. From 1.5, it will have to be considered ;).
