Please, Mensik, no more "thirst trap" pictures... cringe!
So yes, maybe Mensik is not a superstar quite yet, despite his excellent Miami title. A disappointing grass season and not the runs he would have hoped for in Toronto and Cincinnati, with a straight set loss against Fokina and a retirement in his last match against Nardi. Jarry was having a disastrous season and looking to become a regular on the CH tour before he was able to stop the bleeding with a good fourth round in Wimbledon. However, since then, he has lost all three of his matches —against Botic, Martinez, and Majchrzak.
I will focus particularly on the matchup here, as it is by far the most important factor, more so than form, in this case. Both players are big servers, but Mensik is more solid from the baseline, while Jarry is more of a risk taker with his very aggressive tennis. For Mensik, it is very obvious from his results which types of players he excels against and which ones he struggles with. He excels against one-dimensional attacking players, while he struggles more against counter punchers and solid baseliners, especially if they are good returners! So yes, I like this matchup a lot for Mensik, especially against a Jarry who tends to do better against weaker players that he can overpower...
