Another Upset Brewing?

Collignon managed to defeat Ruud in what was his third Grand Slam match...

We were able to correctly predict that Collignon would be able to stand up decently to Ruud, but it was unexpected just how well he did. He came out swinging, playing very aggressively, trying to rush Ruud and constantly using his BH down-the-line to force Ruud out from his BH corner, where he just loves to be. It was not an easy affair to serve out the match (several double faults), but he made it. Lehecka had one of his trademark shaky starts before getting into full gear and never looking back against Etcheverry, putting in a solid display except for the patchy start.

Collignon has nothing to lose at this point, and it will be interesting to see what tactic he adapts for this match. His attacking game is not bad at all, pretty decent serve, and some good pop on his groundstrokes. As with most challenger-level players, the bigger issue is with consistency. Ruud was having a particularly bad day with his own forehand and couldn't capitalize, but most ATP-level opponents will not be so kind! While Lehecka can sometimes take the longer route, he tends to win against the players he should beat, and he has a noticeable advantage in almost every category here and is not as prone to being rushed on faster surfaces as Ruud is (nor does he camp his BH corner). I am less optimistic about Collignon in this one, although it could be competitive for a while with his 'nothing-to-lose' attitude and Lehecka's streakiness...
