The Return of Taro Daniel?

We have barely seen him on the main tour this year...

Two wins in qualifying in straight sets against Duckworth and Billy Harris, that's a good start! I find him quite good in these conditions; he is returning well, and the fast conditions definitely benefit him. He can handle them well. His BH has been really good, especially down-the-line. Sadly for him, he got drawn against a player in very good form... Coleman Wong had a spectacular US Open, where he came through qualifying and reached the third round, even pushing Rublev to a five-set match. He also played two Davis Cup matches as a big favorite in both, handling them both in easy straight-sets, so no indications of a post-USO hangover ;)

I think this matchup could be quite tricky for both players! Daniel has two matches under his belt and has adjusted nicely to the conditions here... but Wong is playing great attacking tennis with a lot of confidence right now. Wong also has a great attitude; he is very energetic and "switched on," and that should very much be the case here in China for him as well. I think it might've been easier for Taro to play against a non-asian player who might not have been in as good form or as locked in as Wong currently is, because I really like the way Taro has been playing...
