A Long Way From Qualifiers
10 matches in 13 days, does Tabilo have enough left in the tank to go all the way...?
Well, we can say it's 9 matches, cause O'Connell retired after 3 games in their SF in the previous tournament. Still, that's a lot of time on court. It did look like he was in trouble early on against an O'Connell who's had a very good tournament, but Tabilo managed to stabilize and turn the match around. Nakashima had a real battle against Giron, managing to squeak through in a deciding set tiebreak (this is quite a common pattern for him lately). I'm not even sure Nakashima was the better player here, and that's a bit worrying since he was a rather big favorite. His serve, clutchness, and resilience won him the match more than anything else.
Nakashima has already faced a lefty here; he played a good match against Shang recently. Despite this, his stats against lefties are noticeably worse than against right-handers. He is also better against players with weaker serves and less firepower. However, one of the biggest questions will be how much Tabilo has left in the tank... cause if he starts feeling fatigued, it's a long way back, especially trying to make an inroad on the consistent Nakashima serve. As for the matchup, I would say that it favours Tabilo, but we do indeed have to consider how well Nakashima handled Shang. I do think Nakashima is a tough opponent to face if you are not fresh, cause his base level is so steady and he will just "keep doing his thing" solidly. Tabilo might have played a lot of matches in a short span, but many of them have not been overly long or exhausting... and he has not played much at all this year due to injuries! However, still, 2 hours and 30 minutes against O'Connell today and almost 3 hours against Lloyd Harris earlier... Let's look at the odds to see if we can find something worth taking a risk with ;)
