Giron is starting to win matches again and you know my love for him!
Often underrated, Giron is a tenacious and hard-to-beat guy. He hasn't been playing well lately and has finally found a decent level in the last few matches! It's good, but he needs to confirm that, and he's going to have a tough opponent against him. Korda is still recovering from his injury, but even last week it was very good. So far, the two tournaments he's played in without giving up have really pleased me with what I've seen! Imperious on serve, so clean and accurate from the baseline, a good receiver, he reminds us every time that with a solid physique he could be so good. He lost to Wu last week, a very different profile from Giron, and the Chinese player bothered me a lot more for himself. I said it in the analysis, and Korda didn't like it. But even in a not-so-great match-up, it took an exceptional Wu to beat him. Korda is back in a nicer match-up where he'll have time, and even if Giron is a very good defender, he'll have to do a lot more than that. Korda will also put pressure on him on the return leg. The match is really not easy for Giron, who will have to play his best tennis throughout the match to blow Korda away. He knows how to do it; we often back him because we know he can turn matches around and wear down his opponents.
