Borges was in a bad situation against Watanuki and then the Japanese got injured, it's not the first time that Borges has gotten away with it like that.

In his defense, Borges came up against an excellent Watanuki who hurt him a lot with his overpowering forehand. I like coming up against Borges when he's not good, but here I think his match was really good. He doesn't like match-ups and here it's really pushing it to the extreme. Fritz falls into this category, especially on serve, but in the baseline game he's a little less explosive than Watanuki, which will give Borges time. To create a surprise? We're a long way from that. Fritz also had a calf injury during his victory against Diallo, but nothing too serious, it seems. He won the second and third sets after this MTO, so I guess it's okay (I didn't see any big signs). Now, I don't think Borges is capable of winning, but the surface is cool for him, and he made a good visual impression on me! And above all, he is a specialist in difficult first rounds and then goes on to hook much better players. It's a bit of a pattern with him, and even if his current period doesn't make us want to trust him, the odds will decide!
