Shimabu-head cutter
What if the Japanese was the surprise of this edition? After taking out Machac, he faces Korda and even if the American lost in the rankings, he remains a big name.
Great performance from Shimabukuro against Machac today, he was more accurate and more invested too. The match wasn't of great quality though, Machac was almost unconcerned at times and I found his movements limited. I'm not taking anything away from Shimabukuro's victory, he deserves it and plays well anyway. It's a very active game, he tries a lot on the return and in the game, he's not there to wait 20 shots from the baseline without trying something. A style of play that could be reminiscent of Wu, the player Korda lost to last week.. So yes but I invite you to watch this match again and Wu's level was stratospheric especially after the first set, I've never seen Shimabukuro play at this level and I don't think he's capable of it honestly. After that he's at home, comes out of the qualifiers and has just beaten Machac, confidence-wise he's at his peak and his tournament is already a success so obviously he'll be dangerous. As for Korda, he fought hard against Giron today too, it was a good match from him honestly and it's not a sluggish victory in the mode he plays badly and gets away with it. No no, it was a very good Giron in front of him and he had to be taken out, it's a good victory. He finds a completely different matchup and once again Shimabukuro is not as powerful and aggressive as Wu, he is too but Korda should have a little more time this time which reassures me.
