The idol

Djoko is adored in China; I think that’s where he has the most support (after Serbia, obviously), and it shows in his results as well. He seems to be a real contender for the title again

Djoko handled the first round well, even if he gave himself a scare against a solid Cilic. Not a cupcake opener, and that’s perfect to kickstart his tournament—he’s setting the tone and showing it’ll take something serious to beat him! I wouldn’t put Hanfmann in that category of player, but the German’s been playing really well since qualies, and now that his tournament is already a success, he’ll be able to swing freely against Djoko. No pressure, and he’s coming in playing his best tennis in a while—it wouldn’t be crazy to see him hang on for a set before going down as expected. His game can do damage: the serve is dialed in and he doesn’t hesitate to come forward, so he’s going to try things—and honestly he doesn’t have much choice. So do we believe in him taking a set or the games over for Hanfmann, or will Djoko be too calm and imperious?
