It's going to blow up!
Between Ugo, who fires missiles but is still a bit light physically, and Rune, who can play like a top-10 or else crack, you’ll have to choose wisely!
So, first off, they’re on Center Court. Fairly slow conditions according to several players including De Minaur, but it’s sunny and feels like 34°C. A bit less humidity = the balls fluff up a little less quickly. All of that obviously suits Ugo. The Frenchman finally put together a good match, that was against Thompson. Honestly solid, both tennis-wise and mentally. What would’ve happened if Thompson had taken the second set? Ugh, you could feel the momentum starting to shift a bit, but Ugo is such a warrior... The upside with his game is his matches don’t last three hours. But if we’re being pragmatic, the heat and humidity, even reduced at match time, aren’t ideal for Ugo. Personally, I’m picturing a pretty clear pattern: Rune goes full grinder mode from the baseline when Ugo is attacking and draws the error. I like him in that mode. And when he’s in form, he layers on a good dose of aggression and returns well. One risk for me is Ugo being a bit gassed and just launching missiles. Rune having to handle that situation worries me. Anyway, I thought the Dane looked very good against Báez, and he gives me (for once) the feeling that he’ll be good here. I think he likes to finish seasons strong, with the indoor swing around the corner and a lot of points to make up...
