Alright, off to Almaty! This somewhat ghostly tournament with a subdued vibe. But I like it anyway. Medium-quick indoor, but the altitude makes the ball travel a bit more through the air, and the bounce is low. We’ve got Marozsan/Nardi in the first rotation. Well, even without looking at the head-to-head, when I think of Marozsan indoors against Nardi who throws in doubles, I’m like, “what’s the point of an analysis.” The Italian certainly didn’t have an Asian swing that gave him confidence, and by his own account, even his training for Almaty got disrupted. He’s an excellent baseliner who could cut the ground from under a Marozsan who plays his best when he has just a bit of time, but Nardi’s serve quality, folks… Indoors, it’s very hard to trust him. He does sometimes put together very good tournaments, even if it’s been rare this season, but he absolutely needs confidence, and Fabian Marozsan’s game is anything but the kind that plays you back into form. So let’s see what bets we’ve got left.
