The Depressed Dutch
Griekspoor was not exactly happy with himself after losing to Vacherot...
After failing to win the second set against Vacherot, it all spiraled quickly for Griekspoor. After getting broken late in the third set, he was fuming and talking to himself about how poor it was off him not to break in the second set... for the entire changeover, he had this monologue. Throughout the match, his Swedish physio, Sebastian Pisano, was trying to help him stay calm and fight. After Griekspoor lost the match, he had a very negative interview where he basically said he should have never lost the match, that he probably wants to play tennis tomorrow, but for now, he is "done with it". Do you think he feels a bit better after seeing Vacherot go all the way to the final? I'm not so sure ;) As for Fearnley, he picked up an unspecified injury after the USO, keeping him out of all the tournaments in the Asian Swing. He did get two indoor hardcourt matches under his belt in the Roanne Challenger in France just a few days ago.
The outcome of this match will depend a lot on how Griekspoor shows up here. I found his level quite high against both Sinner and Vacherot... can he forget about the bad outcome and sharpen up again? We know he has a great relationship with the Swedish physio, Sebastian... hopefully he has shown Tallon some nice spots in Stockholm to get his mind back on track 😂 As for the matchup, it's not a bad one for Griekspoor. He gets to face an Attacking Baseliner, it's his best matchup by quite a bit. I don't like the matchup for Fearnley as much. I find him better when he can dictate and construct points... and against Griekspoor, that becomes hard due to his big serve and forehand. Actually, they faced here last year in the second round... Griekspoor won 7-6, 6-3 and was quite dominant. Will the story repeat itself, or can Fearnley take advantage of a Tallon that is not "locked in"?
