Kovacevic's Time to Shine?

Time for indoor hardcourts, perfect opportunity for him to grab some wins...

Because yes, he has not been able to win a lot lately. Losing to Wong in the USO, Royer in Hangzhou, Vukic in Tokyo, and Shang in Shanghai ;) Basically, all of the players he lost to in the first round went on to have good tournaments... and he kept the scorelines respectable, managing to win a set in each match. As for Carabelli, he has already achieved quite much this year. His performance during the clay season has pushed his ranking enough to be a part of the main tour. As expected, he has not been getting a lot of wins since the clay season ended... but I would still say his performances have been decent. Now, he gets to play the third indoor hardcourt match of his life. And on paper, it should be worse for him than outdoor hardcourt! He will not be able to use his physicality as much, which is one of his strengths.

Kovacevic has had a rough time on the main tour and needs to really grab this opportunity. He gets to play on his best surface against an opponent that lacks the weapons to hurt him here. He has the better serve and understanding of how to play on an indoor hardcourt, and while Carabelli is hard to put away, he has everything needed to take care of this match. My main concern for Kovacevic is that he might have some dips and "gift" a bit, due to a lack of confidence that comes from not having won a lot lately. To sum it up, a clear advantage for Kovacevic, mainly due to the conditions... but will he be able to execute smoothly, or will Carabelli's tenacity make this more challenging than expected?
