A Good Sonego?

A dominant first-round win, is it one of those "Sonego-weeks"?

Well, let's calm our horses a little. Sonego was indeed good, but Fery helped him a lot. Sonego was able to run riot with his forehand; Fery lacked any sort of power to pressure him. As for Kovacevic, I found him quite "off" against Carabelli. He really struggled to hit through him, was quite erratic, and was not getting a lot from his serve. He managed to take the second set in the end and was more dominant in the third until Carabelli retired at 4-0 down. They will be playing on Court 1, which is where Kovacevic played his match (Sonego played on CC), so a small advantage for him there. We prefer Sonego on the center courts, so this could be something that affects him a bit negatively, indeed! Sonego was a lot more convincing; he can exist on return and implement his game well here on the slower courts. We know that Kovacevic can also play well in these conditions and that the matchup against Carabelli was tough due to the constant changing of pace and variety. Kovacevic was also on somewhat of a losing streak, so it's not impossible that just getting a win will bring some more confidence for him to go after his shots, because he didn't really do that against Carabelli. If Kovacevic is still too passive, Sonego will take control of the match, and it will be hard for Kovacevic to recover, since he is not the best defender...
