Bonzi's nemesis

Lehecka seems like the perfect profile to disrupt Bonzi’s game; in any case, the Frenchman just can’t do it against him..

Bonzi beat Lehecka once in his career, but that was back in 2021 on clay. Since then they’ve met three times and Bonzi hasn’t managed to win more than 4 games in a set—the stat stings. Whether on hard or grass, the Frenchman took two clean beatings this season, and it’s no big surprise given the Czech’s profile, which is awkward for him. Lehecka serves well and, above all, he’s very powerful/aggressive—he takes time away from Bonzi, and the Frenchman doesn’t like that. His start to the tournament is pretty good, but even against Royer you can already see how far from dominant he is in this kind of match-up. The young Frenchman could’ve made his life even harder if he hadn’t run out of gas, and every time he was on top it was by playing aggressive/powerful tennis. So yeah, getting past Royer is fine, but Lehecka is a level above—and let’s not forget the Czech is defending a final. He’s good in these fast indoor conditions; he’s a killer. He’s having a solid season, and if you look at his recent losses, the only one that sticks out is against Rinderknech, and in hindsight it’s not even worrying. He’s especially learned how to win while playing badly, which gives him extra security too—he could still get it done even on an off day. That doesn’t give me much hope for Bonzi. He needs to try things, to drag this match into a different kind of pattern than usual, and maybe then he can plant some doubt in Lehecka’s mind—but I don’t really buy it. How about you?
