Medvedev keeps it going after a well-earned title, while Borges hopes to capitalize on a potential physical letdown.

Daniil has finally gotten on the board by winning the title in Almaty this Sunday!

A bit of a slow-burn title, with often complicated starts to matches, but each time he managed to turn them around with an overall solid level of play, great resilience, and that more aggressive style he’s been aiming for since he started working with his new team.

So the tennis is there, and the uncertainty will come from the quick turnaround and potential fatigue. He had an intense Asian swing and then this tournament in Kazakhstan; it’s starting to add up.

Across the net, Borges will start his indoor season here—and rightly so, since these are conditions that really aren’t made for him. He’s a player I like and who can sometimes trouble the best on outdoor hard, but indoors he really has no references, and I particularly remember his last indoor match in Marseille where he looked really outgunned against Bergs.

Daniil leads 3/0 in the H2H, and I honestly don’t see many arguments for Borges to unsettle the Russian today—apart from, again, the potential fatigue and the difficulty of the quick turnaround after Almaty. Given Daniil’s form and mindset, that seems too little for me to go with a bet on the Portuguese.
