Fourth matchup in 2025—we're starting to get used to it!

I think I’ve analyzed all three meetings if I’m not mistaken! And the same pattern keeps popping up: Giron’s playing style is such a pain for Shapo! His flat hitting and his court coverage really mess with the Canadian, who basically gets his ability to steamroll opponents with insane intensity taken away. Indoor conditions suit both of them; I don’t think that fundamentally changes the matchup. The only time Shapo won was on slow hard with a high bounce in Acapulco—totally different conditions. On the other hand, the Canadian’s level fluctuates a lot from one stretch to another, which can mean the way his matches play out changes a lot. The version of him from their previous meetings might not be the same tomorrow. But I don’t really buy that, personally. His Stockholm tournament was honestly not great; he got pushed by Borg and Ymer. You’ll tell me, sure, they’re locals so it’s not that simple, and of course that’s not easy, but with Shapo it’s more telling. When he’s in form, you can put almost anyone across the net and he can hand them a harsh scoreline if everything’s clicking—that wasn’t the case, and I mostly saw a Shapo hampered by an injury. A lower back issue that was really bothering him; that’s another big factor that doesn’t work in his favor. Giron only won one match in Brussels, but he was excellent, and especially against Foki he lost without playing a bad match at all. I think he’s playing better than Shapo right now, and with the Canadian’s minor injury, that opens the door to big bets.
