Adapt!

Two clay-courters who prefer nice, lively clay and warm conditions—playing indoors with that kind of bounce isn’t going to thrill them, even if one of the two handles it better!

I'm obviously thinking of Etcheverry who loves playing in Paris, so yes, we're not at Roland Garros! He came out of qualifying by beating Martinez and then De Jong cleanly, not incredible opponents but the straight score shows a real serious side to Etcheverry who we've considered to be in form for a few weeks now and it's confirmed. When his serve is in place and he dictates with his forehand, he's a good hard court player, he just needs to not be too cautious and at the moment he's active in his game. The trend is good and we want the back, not at any odds or against just anyone! And his opponent is Carabelli, a big liability between the two but right now it's Etcheverry who starts as the big favorite in this match. On hard court, he's still better equipped than Carabelli with his serve and his powerful forehand. Carabelli will have to fix his forehand to open up his backhand side and manage to lock it in there while holding the baseline, but he hasn't been in great shape for some time. He finished his match in Vienna without giving up, which is positive compared to the recent multiple retirements, but I found him a little hard physically. We feel that he doesn't train as much as usual and that he plays each tournament because he has the opportunity, rather than to perform well in it. I won't forget the liabilities, but the dynamics are very important, and the matchup on hard courts remains more enjoyable than on clay for Etche.
