Quicker rematch?

Zverev put on a heck of a match against Sinner last week in the Vienna final—can he replicate that performance?

I’d tend to say yes given his level again this week. After a tricky first round he handled Foki easily, and above all he just beat his kryptonite Medvedev, as he puts it—saved two match points too—enough to let him play super loose next round. His confidence is high, he’s beating dangerous guys and getting out of trap matches—a few months ago he would’ve folded. His serve is back at monstrous percentages and his forehand is biting a bit more than usual; he tightened up less against Medvedev in the final tiebreak, and I think against Sinner he’s got a matchup that helps him play well. Plenty of reasons to be optimistic for tomorrow, especially if you add that Sinner’s tired. Sure, he just pasted Shelton 3 and 3, but to the eye and in a few sequences you can tell he’s not 100% fresh. He also had a little outburst at his team when he broke Shelton—anyway, we’ve got a couple of small signals. But in the end it’s 3 and 3, so who cares, right? Against Shelton, sure—he managed it well—but against Zverev, if we get a match like Vienna, then we can talk. The long rallies will sting, and if Z keeps the same serve quality, he’s got a shot—but I admit that’s a lot of “ifs.” I’ll stay realistic and objective with my bet!
