Pressure, Pressure, and Pressure

Musetti surely feels like he has the world on his shoulders right now...

Once again, it was quite a nervous display against Wawrinka. He got off to a rough start, struggling in his own service games while Wawrinka was holding easily. As usual with Wawrinka, he got off to a great start in the first set, before his level dropped a bit later. I don't really like the conditions for Musetti; fast indoor hardcourt with a low bounce is probably as bad as it gets for him. Stan was serving well throughout the match, and Musetti was struggling for a long time to really get something done on return. Despite the conditions and pressure on Lorenzo, his floor level remains high. Muller might have lost in a third-set tiebreak against Felix in Paris, but he has made up for it here... by winning both his matches in third-set tiebreaks. Muller mentioned that he was feeling "a bit exhausted" in the post-match interview, so that's a concern for him in this upcoming match. Especially, since he is going against someone with great fitness and the ability to extend rallies if Muller is not sharp on serve and hitting big groundstrokes. I like this matchup more for Musetti than his previous one against Wawrinka, and perhaps getting out of the first round will have eased the nerves a bit. I also remember Muller having played a lot of consecutive three-setters before and keeping a good level, but that was earlier in the year, with less accumulated fatigue. It remains quite hard to be on Musetti's side with all the mental pressure combined with unfavourable conditions. Lorenzo is also rated quite highly by the market; he has had a great year so far... and there will be assumptions that Muller is indeed fatigued here.
