De Jong seems to me to have a few keys to disrupt the big Canadian

De Jong is a player I generally find reliable. He’s just had his best season in 2025 and, like his opponent, he’ll come into this match with the confidence he built up last year.

He’s not the most spectacular, but he has real solidity from the baseline, a good reading of the game and above all an ability to manage neutral rallies well. He’s comfortable with the pace, knows how to defend his baseline and often forces his opponent to hit one more shot. On the other hand, he sometimes lacks the weapons to really make the difference.

Diallo is a completely different profile. Big frame, big serve, a game very focused on the first strike. When everything clicks, he can quickly take control of a match, especially in rather fast conditions like here. The downside is that his reliability is still very up and down: a lot depends on his first-serve percentage and his ability to hold his own in rallies when he’s pushed a bit further out of his comfort zone. In terms of momentum, Diallo is still a player on the rise, but he’s still alternating between the very good and the much more complicated.

In the match-up, De Jong seems equipped to neutralize Diallo’s power by lengthening rallies and targeting his movement. If he manages to return well and force him to hit one more ball, he can clearly throw the Canadian off his game. Diallo will obviously have very dangerous serving spells, but sustaining that level over an entire match is still a real question mark, especially for a first match of the year.
