Next Gen fight
Smells like the octagon in here...
The American prodigy Jovic, 18 years old, arrives with a first WTA title already in her pocket, won against the Czech player Bejlek, who has been racking up Challenger titles, mainly on clay. Both players more or less controlled their first-round matches, even if the American had to battle hard against Gabriela Knutson, who was very solid in qualifying. A right-hander versus a left-hander, with, on both sides, magnificent two-handed backhands. Their serve is broadly similar, even though Jovic tends to produce more aces.
Iva has a generally less controlled game and makes far more unforced errors than her opponent today, but in return she produces a higher volume of winners.
I clearly think the match will be more balanced than the odds suggest and that it could come down to very small details.
