From one extreme to the other!

Going from Opelka to Medvedev must feel weird, but hey, Majchrzak has nothing to lose so why not!

Matches are always a bit special when you face the serve-bots on tour, Majchrzak found that out and he was very happy to get through it! It’s really not the kind of style he naturally enjoys, so this win counts double, even triple, especially since he’s a LL, let’s not forget! A player who knows how to seize his chance and who also plays some beautiful tennis; he’s comfortable from the baseline in constructing points with a lot of intelligence and plenty of weapons. Tomorrow he’ll face a match-up he likes: he enjoys having time on the ball and being involved in a long battle without being suffocated from the start. On paper that sounds good, but we’re talking about Daniil here, this is really the extreme example of a player who just keeps getting the ball back without making errors (even though he can do much more than that, to be fair). The Russian is starting the year well with quick, very clean wins; his only concern is the heat/humidity, he’s wary of it and you can’t let that go in any case. That’s the only point that still raises questions; otherwise there’s nothing to say, he’s getting back to his best tennis and seems to be the big favourite for the title at this tournament. He’s serving well, he likes the speed of the courts, and anyway when his tennis is firing he’s still a top-5 player. You’ve probably gathered that I don’t really believe in him losing UNLESS he gets dragged into a 3-hour match in stifling heat/humidity (which doesn’t really look like it’ll be the case).
