The worst draw

No success for either player in the first tournament of the season. Now we’ll see which one manages to seize this new opportunity.

Fucsovics ran into Daniil Medvedev right from the first round in Brisbane: it’s hard to imagine a worse draw to start his season, especially given the very high level the Russian has shown this week. A clear, straightforward 6–2 6–3 defeat, with Medvedev handing out his usual scoreline. It’s not easy to draw any real conclusions from it, even though Fucsovics remains a player who often performs well in Australia, regularly making it through several rounds in Melbourne.

Quinn, for his part, came through the qualifiers. He picked up an interesting win against Bonzi, who is always tricky to deal with, before losing to Collignon, a player currently in great form whose level clearly doesn’t match a spot in qualifying. The American hasn’t yet delivered in 2025 as much as one might have hoped, and it’s fair to expect 2026 to be the season where he really confirms his potential.

This will be the first meeting between the two men — we’ve certainly had matches in the past with more substance to analyze, I’ll grant you that.
