Everything seems to point to it...
…that the conditions will clearly favor Waltert’s attacking game. We’ve got two accomplished clay-courters here. The Swiss player put together a very “high stakes” 2025 season in terms of performances: 52 matches won out of 75. A massive volume and two titles that allowed her to break into the top 100 in style. Lots of aggressive qualities that should quickly smother her opponent, especially in these slower conditions in Hobart, where she’ll really have time to set up her shots.
Zarazúa, on her side, wasn’t hitting much of anything at the start of the 2025 season on the main tour. Her profile is still more ITF/Challenger-oriented, and she needs faster hard courts to really express herself. She’s more comfortable during the American swings and has never really performed in Australia. I don’t really see why Waltert would be the underdog in this matchup. Waltert has a more complete game and all the defensive qualities needed to get through this qualifying round.
