Bondár in All-in mode!

An interesting matchup between two different generations. Bondár, Hungary’s number 1, is above all a complete clay-court player. Ten years of experience on tour and exemplary athletic shape. Anna is super fit, muscular, a real dynamo on court. I can guarantee that three-set matches are anything but a problem for her. Her game adapts very well to hard courts, especially here where the conditions are slower. Positive trend on serve as well, with a solid number of aces: seven on average per match at the start of this season. Quite reassuring.

I particularly liked her win in Brisbane against the American Volynets, who could be nicknamed “the moped” given how much court she covers and how she seems to get to every ball. Bondár is facing here the young German sensation, who has had a very strong 2025 so far. Assertive, forward-moving game, taking the ball very early and mixing things up. However, last night she was knocked out by that same Volynets in Hobart and comes in as a lucky loser, with a mindset naturally leaning towards having “nothing to lose.”

The German’s match was lackluster, with a very improvable serve where double faults just kept coming, almost six per match since the start of the season. You can feel that she still hasn’t found her bearings.

Between a sharp, in-form Hungarian with an effective serve and a young German lacking confidence, who has started her season poorly with four generally average matches, I think the balance is clearly starting to tip to one side. All the more so in windy conditions, where the Hungarian’s experience should logically prevail.
