Halys, the renewal

A fervent defender of Quentin’s effective tennis, here he is already playing very well at the start of the season, with great motivation and above all, significant weight loss. Logical win?

We’re pretty much all on Quentin’s side here in the Tennis Metrics team. Jacob Fearnley isn’t in his best form, whereas Quentin has already shown a really good level of play. QED? That depends on the odds… Because if there’s a lucky-loser effect and Jacob plays well, to me he has the profile to bother Quentin. I’m thinking back to Fearnley’s match in Paris on fast indoor, against a very in-form Hanfmann who was highly motivated to get back into the top 100. Result: 4 and 2 Fearnley. The Brit was coming off a deciding tie-break against Zverev in Vienna, sure, but I don’t get the feeling he needs tons of wins to play well. What happened against Hanfmann? Jacob was using Yannick’s power to redirect the ball and move the German around. He’s the kind of player against whom it’s dangerous to give too much pace / heavy ball-striking. Why am I bringing this up here? Because the comparison with Quentin makes sense to me. Neutralizing his power, and making him move. So the question I’m asking myself is: Quentin in great form, fine, but if Jacob turns up in a good mood, is there really value in Quentin’s ML at 1.65? Not so sure…
