I don’t find either of the two men in good form to begin with, so it’s tricky. At least Shevy has two qualifying matches in his legs, you’ll tell me. The last one against Misolic was somewhat… erratic. A break up in each set with a Misolic comeback, before the Austrian collapsed. Shevy gives 1000% on the important points, as we know him, but in a match there are plenty of other points to play lol. His poor shot selection when it comes to finishing points worries me a bit against Dzumhur, to be honest. But who knows what Damir will be like. Against Borges, he was pissed off after 3 points, and not the good, cathartic kind of anger, more the destructive type. Both players are better in their natural DNA as counterpuncher / defender / grinder, against attacking profiles. Here, it’ll alternate between the two. Dzumhur is craftier in my opinion and Shevy more tenacious. We’re just a few days away from the Australian Open, a Grand Slam on outdoor hard in the Australian heat, conditions that suit Damir. So I’m putting forward the hypothesis that he’ll be much more focused this time and manage his emotions a bit better. And as the better player over the last season, I logically make him the favorite.
