Will the Argentinian be able to impose his superiority from the start of the year?

As I said in the previous analysis, I really liked Munar at the United Cup. He followed up well against Altmaier, but it’s hard to really value that performance given how out of sorts the German has been at the start of this season. In any case, he’ll come into this match with something Cerundolo won’t have: match rhythm.

Munar is an extremely solid player, very disciplined, who relies on his consistency, his ability to defend and to make his opponent hit one more ball, while having added a bit of aggression to his game lately. Francisco Cerúndolo, on the other hand, clearly operates on another level as soon as he’s confident, with an ability to take control of the game and dictate the rally, but also a greater tendency to make errors.

The better of the two players is the underdog here, and everything comes down to the likelihood of immediately seeing a clean, solid match from the Argentine to beat the ever-reliable Munar. Cerúndolo has the weapons to hurt him in every area of the court and to impose a higher intensity. However, he often has flat spells, which still sometimes show up in his game. Munar is precisely the type of opponent capable of punishing any lack of discipline, even without hitting winners one after another.
