What’s gotten into Quentin? The guy just won’t stop winning. The road gets steeper tomorrow with Tomas Machac! The Czech is a player I really like from a tennis standpoint. Clean technically, mobile, smart in his decision-making, he’s capable of defending very well while being aggressive whenever he gets the chance. The problem, and it’s becoming recurrent, is still the physical side, but his match yesterday against Duckworth was reassuring in that regard, and Quentin shouldn’t be giving him a particularly physical match.

Halys comes in with a very clear profile. Big serve, heavy first balls, and a desire to take control of the rally quickly. On fast hard courts, he’s a dangerous player, capable of outclassing plenty of opponents when the serve is working. On the other hand, as soon as the match settles in over time, his limitations become more obvious, especially in movement and baseline consistency.

The balance of power is quite interesting. If Machac is physically ready, he clearly has the weapons to bother Halys, especially on return and in rallies. His ability to get a lot of balls back and vary his targets can push the Frenchman to overpress and commit errors. Personally, I see a fairly clear advantage on the Czech side, and I’m slightly downplaying Quentin’s performances, which came against weaker players. He was notably thoroughly outplayed by Nakashima last week.
