The Polish woman deserves our full attention
This match-up smells like gunpowder
The young American prodigy Jovic continues her Australian journey, stringing together wins and playing high-quality tennis. Also, Zarazua, yesterday, was suffering from serious sunburn on her back, which she showed on Instagram while talking about the Australian sun, and that didn’t help her heavy score from last night.
What interests me here is the Polish player. She’s in good form at the start of this season, with huge experience and still just as combative. You always get the feeling, two meters behind the baseline, that she’s always one step ahead and ready. On the other hand, when she moves forward to attack, it’s with a big forehand, and it often hurts.
Linette manages her rallies well, dragging mobile players wherever she wants in order to finish them off on the opposite side. Wang felt it clearly during the match, and so did I watching. Admittedly, Jovic is clearly the favorite and has already beaten her, but it wasn’t the same Linette. The Polish player has a game intelligence that Jovic still needs to acquire and master. She’s going to surpass the Pole in pure speed, but watch out for any let-up: the experienced Linette will pounce at the slightest sign. She’s still a shrewd strategist!
