Two Wildly Different Scenarios

Will Medjedovic be too powerful?

Medjedovic can really go after it on return against players with a weaker serve, putting him in a great position, especially considering his own huge serve. A decent run for him in Auckland, including a rain-delayed, drama-filled match against Mensik, where his lack of consistency cost him. I was hoping to see a more serious Medjedovic in 2026. Still, so far it's looking exactly like what we had in 2025: sulking body language, bad drop shots at the wrong times (forcing it over and over), highlight shots mixed with erratic stretches of play. Actually, the more I think about it, it's like a light version of pre-2025 Bublik or Kyrgios! While his fellow Serbian mentor and sponsor, Djokovic, is excellent in Grand Slams, the opposite is true for Hamad. I'm not talking about winning titles, I'm talking about actually winning matches at all. With his style of play and physique, the best-of-five set format does not do him any favours. He struggles to maintain his aggression over a longer match; he is the most likely to fade physically in most of his matches out of the two players on court. Also, the most likely to have mental dips that can be costly. He is just 1-6 in opening Grand Slam rounds.

Navone hasn't looked great for a while, and it looked the same way in his opening match against Wong. However, he was able to deliver a better performance against Michelsen in Auckland, pushing him. Like many other clay-courters, he struggles with the aggression and power to actually finish points on hardcourt, allowing his opponents back into the rallies. His major advantage over Hamad in this match is his endurance... if this match goes long and physical, he'll have a massive advantage. He's also a pretty good returner, which is crucial against Medjedovic, who tends to get a lot of his free points off serve. As I mentioned in the title, this is a match that could be over really quickly, if Medjedovic can get into return games and just overpower Navone in conditions that should suit him more. Still, I think Hamad would've liked to play this one indoors ;) Outdoor conditions make this a lot trickier, with a decent amount of heat expected as well. If he is unable to finish this one "in time", Navone is the perfect opponent to exploit his fitness issues...
