Already a rematch
The two players faced each other at the United Cup and they’re already going at it again
I watched the United Cup match in full and after a pretty sluggish start, our friend Stefanos calmly won in straight sets. I’m the first to criticise the Greek, but here he was, in my opinion, facing a perfect opponent to let him set up his game without exposing his weaknesses too much. Mochizuki is a solid player but he’s more of a “lightweight” type, without a big serve – exactly what Stefanos needs in these tough times.
We saw it against Vukic: the Greek’s attacking game is clearly not completely fine-tuned yet, but here he should have too much leeway not to get through. After two losses at the United Cup, Mochizuki also lost in the first round of qualifying to JM Cerundolo in Auckland, a sign that his own form is pretty average.
