Little Tien has really grown up!
Everyone remembers Tien’s tournament right here last year; now he’s a seeded player, things move fast!
Explosive breakthrough for the young American who gets everyone on the same page with his playing style! It’s clever, tactically clean and really great to watch, we love this kind of tennis here. This is the “confirmation” season, we’ll see if he’s capable of playing at the highest level every year or not. For now his start to the year doesn’t fully convince me, he played two very average matches in Brisbane and was quite affected by the conditions with a small MTO. I’m expecting him to raise his level, but for the moment I’d say I’m still on the fence. When you compare it to Giron’s start to the season, it’s not the same, the other American is much more inspired and already has quite a few wins under his belt. In terms of confidence, he’s coming in at the max, and in this kind of long format I think he has a good profile to manage to throw his opponents off their game at one point or another. In other words, I find it hard to see a one-sided match for Tien; this is supposed to be a match with lots of breaks, momentum swings and a nice little finish, right?
